SRP contributes to nonprofits serving community during record heat wave

As record high temperatures continue to impact the Valley, SRP is providing relief to five local nonprofits helping vulnerable populations deal with the extreme high temperatures.

We are contributing a total of $110,000 to the Salvation Army – Southwest Division, St. Vincent de Paul Society, City of Phoenix Mayor’s “We’re Cool” Heat Relief Drive, United Food Bank and AZCEND Chandler Christian Community Center.

Local artists create murals to beautify community

On a recent weekday, Arizona artist Ignacio Garcia stood in front of his empty canvas: A plain mustard-brown wall next to a gas station, a car wash and a convenience store, all along a busy nondescript Phoenix street.

As he prepared the wall for the mural he planned to paint, a few curious onlookers stopped by.

SRP volunteers sew pencil cases for underprivileged students

When 1,000 students across the Valley return to school this fall, a unique take on a back-to-school basic will be there to help them get started.

Hand-sewn pencil cases — with designs ranging from butterflies and pirates to ballerinas and dinosaurs — were made by about 40 SRP employees and retirees, along with their family and friends, who are part of a quilting club called the Kilowatt Kwilters.
