Record-setting energy demand

Electric grid will continue to meet Valley’s heat wave challenge

Monday, June 19, was a scorcher — at 118°F — and SRP’s customers set a new all-time energy demand record of 6,981 megawatts (MW) between 5 and 6 p.m.

That peak topped the previous SRP system peak of 6,873 megawatts set on the same date last year.

With extreme temperatures expected to continue through the week, our power experts predict we will reach a new peak again today.

SRP’s robust electrical grid is fortified and maintained year-round to handle the predicted record temperatures. Because of continual investments in new technology as well as a year-round and comprehensive maintenance plan for the generation, transmission and distribution assets, SRP customers can expect optimal grid performance.

Our comprehensive line maintenance and infrastructure improvement programs help reduce outages from weather-related damage.

In case of an outage, customers can check for updates or report one on our online outage map, or call (602) 236-8888 anytime 24/7, 365 days a year, or report it through MyAccount or the SRP Mobile App on their mobile device or computer.
