Employee honored for 3 decades as St. Johns football coach

As the assistant football coach for St. Johns High School, Joe Garcia has helped shape the lives of hundreds of teenagers — some of whom have gone on to become his co-workers.

The St. Johns Unified School District recently honored Garcia, a Plant Mechanic Maintenance Specialist at SRP’s Coronado Generating Station (CGS), for his 30 years of service on the field.

Forest debris to fuel

Test burn aims to accelerate forest restoration, reduce wildfires

SRP is exploring the feasibility of using forest debris as a supplemental fuel at its Coronado Generating Station (CGS) in St. Johns, Arizona, to improve the health of Arizona’s forests and watersheds.

CGS workers are scheduled to test burn more than 2,600 tons – or about 250 acres – of forest debris biomass at the plant over a 20-day period beginning in the fall or early winter.
