SRP employee: “We survived because of seat belts”

SRP-APS partnership to help Phoenix PD K9s train in safer conditions
Gilly, a 65-pound German shepherd-collie mix from the Czech Republic, is one of the Phoenix Police Department’s smallest dogs. But his tenacity makes up for his modest size. He is certified in patrol work, along with narcotic and cadaver detection.
But until recently, Gilly and the 16 other pawed protectors in the patrol division were training under less-than-ideal conditions.
Employees rescue birds from dangerous heat
Last week’s scorching heat could have proven fatal for some young birds if it wasn’t for the eagle eyes of employees.
At three SRP facilities, record-setting temperatures drove baby birds to jump from their nests, which had become too hot. The birds were too young to fly though and ended up on the ground, unable to escape the sun.
SRP contributes to nonprofits serving community during record heat wave
As record high temperatures continue to impact the Valley, SRP is providing relief to five local nonprofits helping vulnerable populations deal with the extreme high temperatures.
We are contributing a total of $110,000 to the Salvation Army – Southwest Division, St. Vincent de Paul Society, City of Phoenix Mayor’s “We’re Cool” Heat Relief Drive, United Food Bank and AZCEND Chandler Christian Community Center.
